Detoxifying foot pads have their beginnings in ancient Japanese traditional medicine. The first foot pads to come on the market were based on this tradition, and contained ingredients such as fermented bamboo vinegar and other substances which may actually have some benefit. Kinoki, however, will not release what ingredients are in their foot pads. These foot pads, as well as Avon foot pads, were tested by Paige West on MSNBC’s "Does It Work?" blog.

Kinoki foot pad’s parent company in New Jersey sells not only these foot pads but also a wrinkle cream that will made wrinkles disappear. Just as there is no cure for wrinkles, it turns out that detoxifying foot pads may be a scam as well. John Stossel on 20/20, as well as Paige West on MSNBC’s “Does It Work?” and countless bloggers have all attested to the fact that these pads do not work.
Kinoki and Avon Foot Pad Ingredients
When asked by John Stossel, Kinoki did not come forward with an ingredient list. And the website listed on the MSNBC “Does It Work?” article page has been parked. Their advertisement claims that the pads contain wood vinegar and green tea, which will pull toxins from the body. But what do they contain? Avon makes a similar product which contains not wood vinegar but acetic acid, plus sorbitol, dextrin, tea leaf extract and tourmaline.
Kinoki Foot Pad's Parent Company Xacta 3000
Kinoki is owned by Xacta 3000 and is located in Lakeshore New Jersey. The Federal Trade Commission voted 4-0 on January 28 to file a complaint against this company because of false claims about its Kinoki Foot Pads. The claims which the FTC are disputing include the fact that the company claims to have scientific evidence to back up its claims that the pads remove toxins through the soles of the feet.
Traditional Japanese Medicine
Foot pads are a traditional form of Japanese medicine. There are foot pads, made in Japan, which contain ingredients which have been used for centuries for their purported health benefits. According to Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt interviewed by Dr. Mercola on Mercola.com, Seguin foot pads contain bamboo vinegar which has been aged 9 years. These foot pads did not remove heavy metals, but Dr. Klinghardt did notice an improvement in the kidneys.
How Traditional Japanese Foot Pads Work
Traditionally, the foot pads are placed on the feet in order to activate meridians elsewhere on the body. This is based on the principles of reflexology, which is a form of acupressure that states that the foot contains a map to the entire body. By placing a foot pad on the feet, you can, according to this theory, activate certain organs. In this case, Dr. Klinghardt noticed an improvement in the kidneys.
